Tellable ("the App") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the App handles and why.
Local use and account connection
You can use local journaling without an account. To purchase Tellable Pro and synchronize supported learning data, connect a Tellable account. Your email address and account identifiers are processed for sign-in, account connection, and checking Pro access.
Data stored on your device
The journal entries, text, recordings, tags, and settings you create are stored in a database (SQLite) on your device. With a connected account and Tellable Pro, supported learning data is also stored by the Tellable service for synchronization across connected devices. This includes vocabulary cards, review progress, and saved journal text. Recordings, photos, and device settings are not included in journal synchronization.
Sending data for AI processing
When you use AI features such as transcription, feedback, rewriting, translation, or read-aloud, the relevant audio or text is sent to the following services for processing:
• Anthropic (Claude API) — generating, correcting, and translating text
• OpenAI — generating read-aloud audio (TTS)
• Cloudflare (Workers AI) — transcribing audio (Whisper) and relaying the API
Only the text or audio needed to run that feature is sent. This data is used solely for processing and is never used by us for advertising or to identify you. Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy with protections comparable to this one, and does not use the shared data for advertising or to train its own models. The app asks for your consent in-app before using any AI feature.
Microphone use
The microphone is used only while you are recording. Recordings are stored on your device and are sent to the services above only when you transcribe them. We never record in the background without your action.
Web payments
Where web billing is available, Stripe processes your payment details on its hosted checkout and billing pages. We send your Tellable account identifier to Stripe to associate the purchase with your account. We store the Stripe customer identifier, checkout references, and subscription access information to manage Pro access and process billing updates. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and are not stored by Tellable. Your learning notes and recordings are not sent to Stripe. See Stripe’s privacy policy for how Stripe handles payment data.
Advertising and tracking
The App shows no ads and does not track you for advertising. Only if you allow it in the App, Google Analytics for Firebase receives app launch and activity dates, general device and OS information, and a random app-instance identifier so we can understand usage and improve the App. Analytics never includes your journal entries, text, recordings, name, or email address. You can change this choice anytime in Settings.
Deleting your data
You can delete individual journal entries within the App. Deleting the App removes its local data but does not by itself delete synchronized cloud data. Use the cloud-data deletion control in Tellable to remove synchronized data. Contact us for assistance with account data.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will note them in the App or on the store listing.
